Description: This DVD provides a one-hour study session for adult education in churches. It is helpful for laity, religious leaders and anyone who wants to raise awareness about domestic violence. As an edited version of a longer video titled Broken Vows: Religious Perspectives on Domestic Violence, this program presents basic domestic volence awareness information and provides ideas on how congregations can become safe spaces for battered women to seek help. This program will not equip clergy with the expertise to counsel battered women or batterers, therefore it is critical for clergy and laity to be aware of local community service agencies and to understand the importance of referring battered women and batterers to appropriate domestic violence providers who are experts in dealing with issues of power and control, battering, providing shelter and safety, counseling and law enforcement. The program includes a DVD and a very helpful study guide for facilitators. In addition general awareness brochures titled What Every Congregation Needs To Know About Domestic Violence are available with this resource and can also be purchased from www.faithtrustinstitute.org.
Age Groups: Young Adult; Adult (30-55); Adult (55+)
