Description: | The Didache, a first century text discovered in Turkey but originally thought to be written in Syria within 50 years or so of Jesus' Crucifixion, explores how one early Christian community lived. Derived from Greek, the word "Didache' shares roots with the English word "didactic" meaning teaching; this text offers much to us in terms of understanding Jesus' life, his teachings and the lives of his early followers. Also known as the "teachings of the 12" (as in the 12 disciples), the Didache explores: what is "the way of Jesus" what does it meant to"be church" when is it good to" look to the future" why is it important for Christians to look "back to the roots of faith"? Dennis Osborn of the Northwest United Methodist Foundation said that he enjoyed this small group study. Content was interesting and educational. He thought that the material on Baptism and Fasting, being active in your community and accepting that we are not perfect was unifying while the hot topics of abortion and the function of the Eucharist might cause debate.
