Description: | This video takes us on a pilgrimage to the sites important to Methodism including the birthplace and home of John and Charles Wesley, the New Room in Bristol, the Foundery, Oxford, the grave of Susanna Wesley and the sites of Wesley's ministry in the USA. John Wesley's message and faith and Charles Wesley's poetic hymns continue to speak to the Christians of today. We find that their story is our story and their challenge is ours as well: to rediscover our spiritual passion and live it out in our culture and time period, not only to revive our hearts and souls spiritually, but to change our world because to paraphrase John Wesley, "the world is our parish." There are six sessions in this video (each 10-15 minutes long): Precursors to Revival (Epworth) A Longing for Holiness (Oxford) A Crisis of Faith (Georgia and Aldersgate) The Necessity of Grace (Bristol) Works of Mercy (The Foundry, London) Persevering to the End (Chity Road Chapel, London) There are also two short previews suitable for promoting this study resource in worship and three short bonus sections as well as a postscript titled Why Methodism Matters. Join Adam Hamilton as he hosts this pilgrimage through John Wesley's land, life, ministry and teachings. A study guide and book are available with this resource and books can be purchased by individuals who participate in the study but are not required. "The M&M (Mary's and Martha's) class of [Marysville United Methodist Church] recommends Revival. We have learned so much about Methodism and [it's] development led by John Wesley. It was interesing to elarn about our Methodist roots in Great Britain and that our first church building in London is still actively used today. We realized that we didn't know that much about John Wesley. We have used several studies of Adam Hamilton because of his ability to express simply what is profound. Ths time we discovered why we are proud to be United Methodists and learned how to 'talk our walk'." - Mary Stiles, Adult Education Chair, Marysville UMC. "A very good Study for small group[s] or Sunday School use that encourages Wesley's principals of personal spiritual growth" - Susie Paulson, Lewiston First UMC. |
